Twin Scene is a small, human-run index of the Twin Cities music scene. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell anything about you, and there are no ads. Here's the whole picture, in plain words.

Who runs this

Twin Scene is a project of Birdhaus Records LLC. Questions about this policy, or anything you'd like fixed or removed: alex@thebirdhaus.org.

What we collect

How we use it

To run the site, send you the emails you asked for, and keep the place safe (rate limiting, spam and abuse handling). That's it. We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone for advertising.

Cookies & local storage

We set one cookie: a session cookie (ts_session) that keeps you logged in for up to 90 days. It's HTTP-only and secure. We also keep two random, anonymous IDs in your browser's local storage for our own analytics (see below). No ad trackers, no third-party ad cookies.

Analytics

We run our own first-party analytics to see which pages get used: the page path, a coarse device type (phone / tablet / desktop), and those anonymous browser IDs. Analytics events store no IP address and no browser user agent. Our host, Vercel, also collects aggregate page-view analytics.

Services we rely on

Twin Scene runs on a few outside services that process data for us:

Some pages embed players from YouTube, Spotify, Bandcamp, Vimeo, or SoundCloud. When a page with an embed loads, those services receive standard request data from your browser (like your IP address), same as visiting them directly.

Public profiles and your controls

Your profile page is public by default, and you can make it private with one toggle. There are also per-section toggles for your bio, status, followed artists, and show history. Your email address and home address are never shown publicly, on any setting. If your profile is private, your show history isn't visible to anyone but you.

Messages

Direct messages on Twin Scene are not end-to-end encrypted, and the site admin may access them when handling reports or abuse.

Email

We send email you've asked for: login links, new-message notifications, the weekly show digest, show announcements from artists you follow, and new posts. Each type has its own toggle in your profile settings, and the notification, digest, and announcement emails each carry an unsubscribe link. (Login and account emails don't — they only arrive when you ask for one.)

Text alerts (SMS)

Twin Scene may offer optional text alerts. If you opt in to text alerts, we use your mobile number only to send the alerts you asked for. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

Deleting your data

Email us at alex@thebirdhaus.org and we'll delete your account within 30 days. Some records may survive deletion where we need them — things like security logs, abuse-handling records, and content already removed from the site but retained in our systems for a while.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
