Live performances are multimedia improvisations that utilize a mixture of projection imagery (curated filmed pieces mixed with personally shot video footage) with a visual signal affected by the sounds being produced in the performance. FFO drone, improvisation, glacial maximalism, deep listening, and experimental electronic, with techniques derivative of contemporary classical music. The Nelson Devereaux Trio Bio: Float into a cinematic musical beyond with the psychedelic sounds of The Nelson Devereaux Trio. Hi, I’m Dan. I’m a whiskey & beer drinking, fishing & hunting loving, motorcycle riding, quality food eating, hippie sympathizing, hobby farm running, people loving, husband & father who lives in Minneapolis and shares a life with my amazing wife and two adorable sons named Oak and Alder. I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, MI, and moved to Minneapolis when I was 18 to study music, and I stayed because I’m one of those crazy people that enjoys the snow and cold weather. Songwriting, and performing those songs for people, is both my trade and my passion. When I’m not in my studio writing and cutting records, or on the road playing shows, I’m usually playing in the woods with our boys, tending to our backyard chickens, eating fresh veggies from my wife’s huge garden, making syrup from our maple grove, or doing one of my many outdoor hobbies. Now here are a few things about my music career that I should probably share in a music bio: • In September 2014 Budweiser released their "Friends Are Waiting" commercial campaign featuring me singing my song When You Come Home and it premiered during both The World Series & The Super Bowl. • In February, 2018, I released my album 25 Years and the title track is now inching toward 1 million listens. • In October, 2018, Miller Lite featured my newest single “So Good” in one of their commercials that played for months during NFL games on ESPN & more. • In March, 2019, my song “You Feel Like Home” was featured in Explore Minnesota Tourism’s newest ad campaign. • In 2022 I released my album Troubadour Family Man. It’s my debut self-produced record and I couldn’t be more proud of it. • Over the years I’ve had the honor of sharing the stage with some really cool artists & bands including The Civil Wars, Andy Grammer, Eric Hutchinson, Matt Nathanson, NeedtoBreathe, Augustana, Tyrone Wells, O.A.R., Haley Reinhart, Jon McLaughlin, Will Hoge, Drew Holcomb, Sister Hazel, and more.

The Outside In isn’t your grandma’s modern jazz band. Ethan Ostrow’s project blends elements of funk, rock and folk with something completely new, featuring some of the Twin Cities’ most accomplished and versatile musicians. “Seriously funked-up...Ostrow's compositions are dynamic, passionate, and gorgeous” – East Bay Express⁠ Soaring melodies, passionate solos, head-banging grooves, intimate and reflective ballads all define the music, which can be described as a blend between Snarky Puppy, Ghost Note, the Brian Blade Fellowship, and Ethan’s unique compositional voice. Ethan Ostrow is a Minneapolis-based pianist, composer, and singer. A recent transplant from NYC, Ethan has quickly established himself across genres in Minnesota, performing and recording with the Snapped Open Mic band, Ashley DuBose, Adam Bohanan, Omar Abdulkarim, Kathleen Johnson, Abinnet Berhanu, Dakota Andersen, Leslie Vincent, Toussaint Morrison, Thoughtcast, the Twin Cities Latin Jazz Orchestra, and more. Room3 is a jazz fusion wild card rooted in tradition yet driven by experimentation. Their sound is imaginative, melodic and rhythmically sharp, mixing elements of contemporary jazz, prog rock, funk and more. The collective operates out of Minneapolis most commonly as a five-piece, with Eli Awada on keyboards, Wormdove (aka Beck Anderson) on bass, RAWTWHYLAH (aka Colin Mitchell) on drums, Evan Espinoza Robles on percussion and Mike Green on guitar. Room3 has performed consistently at prestigious venues across the Twin Cities, from The Dakota to the First Avenue Main Room, for over two years, and they were recently selected as one of First Avenue’s “Best New Bands of 2024.” Their debut album, “Bill’s Garden,” is out now.

He recently released a solo composition entitled Curse the Day that Birthed the Bastard through his MAKR moniker along with an original score commissioned by the Walker Art Center for Lotte Reiniger's 1926 animation, The Adventures of Prince Achmed. His musical strengths involve a special interest in texture and nuance that sometimes lack in popular music. The music Mark makes tends to reflect a more moody and brooding atmosphere.

A phrase like “fine thanks and you” is often the polite and truncated outer-shell of a much longer, and more complicated story we all have. We use it like a dam to keep the buildup of our thoughts from spilling out onto others, though it’s not always clear who we’re protecting – them or us? Nevertheless, there are worlds behind the wall, for those who wish to explore. And such is the case for this record. Fine Thanks and You is a collection of simple reflections about what it’s like to be in a body, to have agency, to have space, and to move through this window of time like a visitor. Thematically, there is searching in these songs, but never a sense of feeling lost. The album is an exploration, and with every exploration comes imagery: heatwaves waving back at me (Hot Pavement)…sidewalks slipping off into infinity (“City Walkin’”)…painted hills, sharp like knives, cutting up the purple sky (“Wild Ride”)…up again, into the light again, open my eyes and then I realize I don’t want it to end (“Second Thoughts”). The record was produced by Cameron Spies (Radiation City, Night Heron) and recorded mostly at The Trash Treasury and partly at our own studio, Friendly Ghost. Both of these places were a friendly shelter for all of us to have fun, try things, and be freaks - myself (Tim Perry) on guitar and vocals, Rob Oberdorfer on bass, and Evan Railton on drums. Through the second phase of recording, we were joined by Mira Stanley, who I met previously co-writing over zoom. She drove all the way from Nashville to add her voice, and she fit into the fold so well that she has since relocated to Portland and is now a full-fledged member of the band. Throughout this process, I found myself returning to a poem Dr. Clarisa Pinkola Estes, the Mexican-American writer best known for the book Women Who Run With the Wolves. The full poem is worth seeking out, but these lines in particular resonated with me deeply: One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these - to be fierce and to show mercy toward others; both are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do. The impact of this poem is most plainly reflected in the artwork for the album that Mira and I put together, but those sparks and the heat of the flames Dr. Estes talks about are hopefully going to be seen and felt throughout each of these songs. The kinds of brief or lingering lights that will help draw us all closer to one another and allow us to make those necessary connections, be they soul deep and permanent (We could find some light and plant a perfect garden, cultivate ideas, watch their petals open, “Inspiration”) or brief and familiar. Fine thanks and you. Shane Leonard Bio: Shane Leonard is a producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He got his start releasing music as Kalispell and touring with bands like Field Report. He was surprised when other artists began asking him to produce but soon fell in love with the role. “Producing is such a quasi-mystical challenge,” said Leonard, who records to tape and mixes on an analog console. “It’s a thrill and a privilege to be given that kind of trust.” Early projects with Kristin Andreassen and Humbird led to producing JE Sunde, Courtney Hartman, Mipso, Anna Tivel and more. His producing work has deepened his own songwriting practice, as evidenced by his solo albums, 2019’s Strange Forms and the upcoming Make The Birds Fly, out on Sleepy Cat Records February 26. He continues to engineer, mix and sit in on studio and live sessions, becoming known as, in Justin Vernon’s words, “a monster musician who's played with everybody.” He has played and/or recorded with Josh Ritter, Rose Cousins, Foy Vance, Rachel Price, Larry Campbell, Sara and Sean Watkins and others. Although in-demand on a national scale, Leonard remains a central part of his local songwriting community, helping lead a monthly song-share with Eau Claire-based musicians and putting on a yearly songwriting retreat. “I’ve been trying to collaborate in different ways, mostly motivated by our scene,” said Leonard. “Personally as an artist, I feel like I’m using the jaws of life to pry open the can of vulnerability and let people in.”

Artist Information DJ Kenna Kenna-Camara Cottman is Black, non-binary, a parent, a child and a community member in Mni Sota Makoce. Kenna may be known for her work with Voice of Culture, as a dancer, choreographer and educator, but it could also be noted that Kenna is also a practitioner of all the elements of Hip Hop, a community radio host and DJ, a certified Yoga teacher, and an improvisational vocalist. Kenna is an abolitionist non-violent transmitter and receiver and also in the practice of creating and experiencing Black space for cultural arts and liberation. Current projects include self study and reclamation through the Body Prayers cycle. Kenna is the child of Ancestors Beverly and Bill Cottman, community parents & artists each in their own rights. Gray, Paul Metzger, Evan Parker, Didier Petit, Babatunde Lea, Nathan Hanson, Mankwe Ndosi, Rafael Toral, Donald Washington, Guillame Seguron, Tony Hymas, David Boykin, Catherine Delaunay, and Nicole Mitchell Gantt. He’s curated numerous concert series and has received composer awards from the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and commissions from Walker Art Center and Zeitgeist Ensemble. Davu is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Kashimana Kashimana (she/they) is a mother, musician, singer, songwriter, composer, producer, guitarist, and performing teaching artist with a rich soulful blues voice that soars through their original compositions. Mixing Pop, Soul, R&B and more, Kashimana’s distinctive voice pulls you in and connects you to frequencies that encourage connection and transformation. The name Kashimana means 'that's their heart' and you can hear their heart beating in the compelling sound of Kashimana’s music. Kashimana often draws inspiration from their experiences growing up in Nigeria, Kenya, traveling through Africa, Europe and finally settling in the United States. Kashimana weaves stories of becoming a mother, asking what prosperity would sound like for everyone and sharing the truth of what is going on in our communities locally and internationally. Kashimana has performed in and around Minnesota for the last 20 years. You can find them performing in local venues from Icehouse to the local library, conferences to elementary schools. At the core of his practice is a foundational commitment to approaching every new project with humility and openness—embodying a “beginner’s mind” that seeks continual death and rebirth to expand his artistic horizons. Gray harnesses the power of sound to confront urgent social issues such as policing, personal autonomy, and the systemic injustices faced by Black and Brown communities. Echoing the words of scholar and composer George E. Lewis, who reflects on the emergence of a “new type of composer” rooted in intercultural dialogue, Gray embodies this evolution through his own transformative journey. After years of Eurocentric training and scholarship, Gray has intentionally dislocated from traditional frameworks, navigating a space centered in decoloniality and Afrofuturism. His work challenges existing paradigms, forging innovative cultural pathways that resonate deeply with contemporary social justice struggles and artistic liberation.

Sera Cahoone has been a fixture on the Seattle music scene since relocating to the Pacific Northwest in 1998. She played drums with slowcore legends Carissa’s Wierd until they split in 2003. Cahoone joined her CW alums in Band of Horses, playing on their certified Gold 2006 album Everything All the Time. In the 8 years following her album release of “From Where I Started”, Sera Cahoone experienced profound loss. She channeled the heartbreak into writing songs, playing shows, and developing her skills as a producer and drummer, producing three records for friends like Dean Johnson and Margo Cilker. papa mbye writes experimental pop songs threading flourishes of electronic, R&B, soul, and more. Born in The Gambia, raised in North Minneapolis, and a relative newcomer to making music after starting as a visual artist, he’s taken strides in his sound in a short time. With his new self-produced EP, JAKAARLO, he brings his voice into focus, exercising restraint in arrangements while pushing his craft forward. Songs burst with color, texture, and hooks. JAKAARLO is a meditation on closeness. Not just the kind shared between lovers, but the elusive kind that drifts between memory, distance, and desire. The title, which translates from Wolof as “to be close to”, is borrowed from a song by the late Senegalese musician N'dongo Lo appearing on his 2005 album Adouna. With JAKAARLO, mbye channels that sense of appreciation for the entirety of love, the real and the raw, the fleeting and finite, the spaces between people, tense, messy, and beautiful. Kontravoid's masked mystique has remained for over a decade. Ever since the release of his self-titled LP in 2012, the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based Cameron Findlay has perfected dark pop with an oeuvre that teeters between the EBM, electro, and goth genres. His productions, such as 2019's "Too Deep" and 2021's "Faceless," dive to the most derelict corners of foggy, strobe-lit clubs—there is no choice but to dance. An evening of musical musings from two of Minneapolis's finest songwriters, along with a record release from LA's Jake Manzi. Voulouse: Voulouse is the recording project of Minneapolis-based songwriter Jacquelyn Beaupré (she/her). Formerly of Milwaukee-based experimental Americana duo Blessed Feathers. Beaupré’s latest explores spirituality, environmental textures and workings of the heart. The new project features collaborations with Marty Brueggemann and Jeff Patlingrao (of Honeytone Studios), Pat Keen (of Humbird) and the vocal harmonies of sister Jamie Sue Beaupré. voulouse’s first single, “Divine Light,” was released fall of 2023, and they are currently finishing their debut album. Jake Manzi: Jake Manzi is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter, raised in Western Massachusetts. With a subtle touch for turning up pure song-stuff out of life, channeling the likes of Marshall Crenshaw and Tom Petty, of Lucinda Williams and Bruce Springsteen, Manzi offers you his singular take on what contemporary pop-rock can be. Opening for acts like Dawes, NRBQ, Ron Sexsmith, Lori McKenna, and M. Ward and collaborating with artists like Don Was, Mikaela Davis, and Madison Cunningham, Jake Manzi is a songwriter to be reckoned with and a unique talent to be enjoyed. He is currently touring on his 3rd LP, Getting Somewhere. CB: CB. is Texas-born Minnesota-bloomed interdisciplinary artist Christian Bardin (they/she), whose music has hard and soft edges + features wild vocals -- “Joni Mitchell strapped to a rocket.” They composed the short opera YR GOD MY GOD through MN Opera’s MNiatures commission (YouTube), have sung backup for Aby Wolf, Eric Mayson, Theo Langason, and Daniel Bonespur, had a long career in theater, and had a poem about restringing a guitar published through Queer Voices. WREN + WILDE is a Minnesota folk band led by singer-songwriter Hilary Yoder, whose evocative songwriting and unmistakable “smoke folk” sound have earned the group a growing reputation throughout the Upper Midwest. Blending lush harmonies, honest storytelling and a gritty flavor of Americana, Wren + Wilde crafts songs that smolder with equal parts fire and feeling. Their debut album, Serial Dreamers, delivers a collection of deeply human songs that explore love, loss, and resilience while celebrating the chronic believers who keep choosing hope in this fragile world. HALEY E RYDELL is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist originally from Fargo, ND whose memorable melodies and honest lyrics have been making their way across the country. Rydell has been performing for nearly 20 years in a plethora of projects, most recently Ryan Necci & the Buffalo Gospel and The Lowland Lakers. Although best known for her top-notch fiddle playing and her Christine McVie-esque harmonies, the Minneapolis-based artist has been quietly making a name for herself as a first-rate songwriter. Now, with the release of her solo album Midwestern Daughter, she shows why her work has been called “Absolutely gorgeous, like Patty Griffin sitting in with The Weepies” (Denver Westword).

Kiefer Bio- One of LA’s best kept musical secrets, Kiefer has been described as a musician who doesn’t play keys with his fingers, but with his soul, which just about sums up in as simple terms as possible the artistry of this truly gifted individual who has re-defined that happy place between jazz improvisation and hip-hop beat-making. His distinctive musical style, which he calls ‘Over The Breaks,’ reaches new heights of creativity on Memory Bomb, his solo debut for Blue Note Records. Raised in San Diego, Kiefer Shackelford’s upbringing consisted of parents who were both aerospace engineers and keen pianists who both influenced him in their own way. His mother taught him at a very young age how to read music and play piano including simple Bach minuets. His father was a big lover of jazz, and Blue Note in particular, whose records included the hard bop of Sonny Clark and the soul jazz of Gene Harris. Kiefer would endlessly listen to Kind Of Blue, and after reading Miles Davis’s biography at 13, he knew he wanted to become a jazz musician. All during high school he studied jazz piano with a local teacher and went on to attend UCLA where Blue Note legend guitarist Kenny Burrell, who was head of the jazz program, became one of his tutors all through his college career. After college Kiefer got signed to Stones Throw Records where he began to establish his musical identity and gain notice with a series of releases including Happysad, Between Days, and It’s Ok, B U. His musical resume now includes collabs with Dr. Dre, De La Soul, Pete Rock, Anderson .Paak, Kaytranada, Terrace Martin, and many others. Back in 2021 he’d heard that the legendary Don Was, President of Blue Note Records, was taking an interest his work and when time came to look for new partnerships to help him communicate his art to an appreciative audience and he realized that Blue Note would be a great place to do just that. He regards being signed to Blue Note as an “awesome gift” and a huge honor as well as a sentimental full circle moment after having grown up listening to Blue Note. The new collective project FATHERS—with Kiefer, bassist CARRTOONS, drummer Nate Smith, and producer Kenneth Blume—was the first full-length album on the label to feature the keyboardist. Kiefer is a great believer in embracing new influences and new styles by way of collaboration with others and that’s where the journey to his first Blue Note leader album starts. His first priority was to get his two best friends—CARRTOONS and Shibo—to co-produce the album with him as they completely understood his sound, his harmony and were both extremely adept at drum programming. This mindset of innovation through collaboration extended to the inclusion of a whole host of vocalists, rappers and stellar musicians to produce interesting combinations leading to something new and exciting that still sounded like a Kiefer thing. The album title ‘Memory Bomb’ is the poetic way of saying ‘A Dream.’ For Kiefer, there are three types, the sort you experience when you sleep, the wishful longing type, and the ambitious type - and those themes populate the direction of some, if not all, of the songs on this album. There’s a real lyrical feel to Memory Bomb as it tells a story, and thanks to its improvisational moments, one that changes every time you listen to it. It’s wistful, poetic, and groove driven all connected by that central feeling of being in a dreamscape of Kiefer’s making. He describes the creative process for this LP as being driven by the need to find a creative space between jazz and hip-hop and the starting point involved the inclusion of acclaimed drummer Nate Smith, who lays it down on the smacking “Overture.” Kiefer says Smith “can play hip-hop, sound like he’s playing for Steely Dan, or for Betty Carter, or odd meters for Dave Holland, funk for Vulfpeck - he can do all these things and sound signature in all of them.” He expresses the same level of admiration for the other contributors across the album: rappers Tony Stone and Erick the Architect who trade verses on “NewLevels NewDevils”; hip-hop trio Planet Giza who light up the groove-laden “BusyForYa”; saxophonist Walter Smith III and guitarist Flanafi who create the evocative textures of the wistful title track “Memory Bomb.” The album also features contributions from the likes of Cisco Swank, Luke Titus, Relyae, Rae Khalil, Moonchild’s Amber Navran, Phil Beaudreau, Gareth Donkin, and Omari Jazz. Kiefer describes most of the people on the LP as his LA ‘hangouts,’ some old, some new, but he makes special mention of Shibo, a beat maker he met at UCLA who introduced Kiefer to the world of Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Low End Theory, and others which had a profound influence on his creative path. Over the past several years the constellation of talents heard across Memory Bomb have thrived in that space that Kiefer describes as ‘Over The Breaks,’ a term derived from a J Dilla track which for Kiefer means any artist who continues to push those boundaries. Shibo Bio- Shibo is the solo project of bassist and producer Erik Shiboski. A Bay Area native and a staple of the Northeast LA music community, Shibo is a longtime friend and collaborator of Kiefer’s, serving as a co-producer and primary artist on Kiefer’s upcoming album. His bass playing and production are also featured in the work of BROCKHAMPTON, Tkay Maidza, Jay Prince, Planet Giza, Nick Dorian, and others. His debut album, featuring his unique brand of musicianship and synth psychedelia, is set to drop later this year.

Fonville x Fribush is the brand new musical collaboration from acclaimed drummer Corey Fonville (Butcher Brown) and in-demand organist Sam Fribush. Like a hip-hop link up from the 90s, the pair’s collective ear, musical talents and friendship pushes the limits of the organ trio sound into a more youthful, tasty style of blue collar jazz. The trio features a rotating cast of guitarists, including Charlie Hunter, Alan Good Parker and Morgan Burrs. Songs like “I Couldn’t Love You More” and “Blue Chips” immerse audiences in Atlantic Coast soundscapes of their hometown roots in North Carolina and Virginia. Corey Fonville climbed the ranks among the East Coast’s most sought-after drummers and producers for hip-hop, jazz and R&B in recent years. As a founding member of Butcher Brown, he’s performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk and toured the world, in addition to musical collaborations with ESPN and producing albums for artists like Ledesi, DJ Jazzy Jeff and more. Sam Fribush is also one of the freshest young bandleaders and collaborators, known for his signature aesthetic and voice – a vintage 1957 C3 Hammond Organ. “Our intention is to take this music into the future,” Fribush says. The music group “Harriet Tubman” formed in 1998 when drummer JT Lewis, guitarist Brandon Ross and bassist Melvin Gibbs came together to start a band with meaning. Named after the heroic African American slave who risked her life to escape from slavery and help more than 300 others to do the same, Harriet Tubman is deeply inspired by the ideals of freedom. The trio’s music — a fusion of soul, rock, jazz, and blues — examines the depths of these genres for their own unique liberated musical expression. The band counts Jimi Hendrix, Ornette Coleman, and Parliament-Funkadelic as contributors to its musical DNA. Guitarist and singer Brandon Ross, bassist Melvin Gibbs, and drummer J.T. Lewis have collaborated with artists as diverse as Cassandra Wilson, Living Colour, Lou Reed, Herbie Hancock, Henry Threadgill, Sting, Arrested Development, the Rollins Band, David Murray and Meshell Ndegeocello. Their own sound is pure and liberated musical expression — a deep and soulful meditation on the concept of freedom.
