Artist Bio's: Spike and the Gandy Dancers: Peter VanDusartz (aka Spike) assembled the Gandy Dancers to help fulfill the latest leg of his songwriter's quest. As long as I can remember, it's not the melody my brain is interested in but the web of harmonic potential - often unsung - that lives in each moment of a song. From my earliest years spent singing all the parts in the pews of my Mennonite country church, to creating the tapestry of Her Crooked Heart's live tour sound, to obsessively arranging pop/folk/rock/whatever for Kith + Kin Chorus. It's just my favorite. Named after the heroic African American slave who risked her life to escape from slavery and help more than 300 others to do the same, Harriet Tubman is deeply inspired by the ideals of freedom. The trio’s music — a fusion of soul, rock, jazz, and blues — examines the depths of these genres for their own unique liberated musical expression. The band counts Jimi Hendrix, Ornette Coleman, and Parliament-Funkadelic as contributors to its musical DNA. Guitarist and singer Brandon Ross, bassist Melvin Gibbs, and drummer J.T. Jaspar Lepak (pronounced JAS-per LEE-pack) is a Minneapolis singer-songwriter known for her clear, pure voice, bravely honest songs, and deep attention to the natural world. Originally from Tucson, she studied classical piano and literature in the Twin Cities before discovering songwriting on guitar after college. Her music has followed her from Minneapolis to Durban, South Africa—where she recorded Forgiving Wind, praised by Rolling Stone South Africa as “full of beauty and original charm”—to Seattle and back to Minnesota. Her 2021 album Desert Ghosts reached the Top 10 on the Folk Radio Chart, followed by 2024’s So Strong, which debuted at #6. There's a new (garage) band in town featuring Rachel Ries, jeremy messersmith, Hilary James, JE Sunde, Sadie Gustafson-Zook and The Starfolk and this is their first show ever! One hot hot day jeremy messersmith came over to pick sour cherries in my brother's backyard and jump in the dodgy above-ground pool. Somewhere between the sticky fingers and toweling off he said "Hey, wanna gather up some friends and play in my garage before it freezes? It's all set up for band rehearsals. We could be a low-stakes seasonal band, playing each other's songs and swapping instruments." Who could say no to that. So that's how jeremy, me, Hilary James (bathtub cig), Sadie Gustafson-Zook, JE Sunde, and Brian & Allison (The Owls, Starfolk) became an honest to god band. Currently everyone fights over playing the bass so we'll see how things shake down for day 2 of my fall residency. Oh yeah and jeremy's garage looks like it was designed by a feisty grandmother in 1972, hence the name. Elsa Krantz Bio: Elsa Krantz is a Duluth, Minnesota-based musician whose work imagines a pre and post-apocalyptic vision for a better world. Elsa Krantz represents her solo singer-songwriter project, with sonic roots inspired by her actual dreams in the night and her local experiences in the day. Krantz's music comes to life with a full-band. This debut record explores stripped acoustics, synth layers, blues inspirations and rock and roll. 'Elsa Krantz: Deluxe Edition' is an exploration of the many choices one may face when at the crossroads of creative freedom. Nikki Lemire Bio: Employing modern pedal harp techniques, looping and electric effects, Nikki Lemire weaves her expressive vocals over complex and hypnotic accompaniment. And throughout all that, it's just been so chill yet oddly effective to work with co-producer Mike Noyce and Dexter Wolfe at the board. Haters Club hosts the second annual DonFest at Icehouse. Bringing in our good friends Scott Hefte and the Bury 'em Deep and Echo Lake. Come give thanks and get your Don on! Haters Club is a rock and roll outfit that isn’t afraid to jump smoothly from genre to genre, while staying focused on sweet melodies and vocal harmonies. Songwriter D.J. Kukielka, guitarist Ted Held, and bassist Amy Rajkowski were friends and members of the local label Eclectone forming the band in Minneapolis, 2010. The band debuted its first song, “Day After Halloween,” featuring J.T. Bates on drums, along with a video from Six-Ton Productions in 2011. Over the next year, the band only played a few gigs, notably opening for Caveman at 7th Street Entry, and received local radio attention. The band recorded their first EP, The Golden Age of Haters Club, in 2012 with Brett Bullion. Shortly after the EP was released the band went on hiatus for personal reasons. After spending the last 10 years playing in a wide range of projects (Wizards Are Real, Street Hassle, Bourbon County), Kukielka and Held have brought the band back together with former Hojas Rojas bassist Donovan Johnson, and drummer Erik Olson. Kukielka was eager to relaunch the band and they recorded their vibrant EP, RIYH, at Minnehaha Recording Studios in October, 2022. The EP was released in January, 2023 and the band was featured on the Current’s March Scouting Report and made the best-of-2023 list for Adventures in Americana. Don’t hate on this crew, you’re gonna have fun. From the ashes of such bands as Seymore Saves the World, Superdanger, Me and My Arrow, and Stolyette, rises a dark and brooding indie-western soundtrack for your apocalypse. Scott Hefte and the Bury ‘em Deep have combined to create hellish landscapes of a dystopian nightmare while not forgetting the righteous influences of old school country, indie-pop, and noise rock. The resulting sound is one of Johnny Cash, Phil Collins, and Godspeed You Black Emperor, fighting a bloodless three way cage match for superiority. No one wins but you, when you dig the music of Scott Hefte and the Bury ‘em Deep. Minneapolis-based trio Echo Lake has been blending genres of American roots music since 2016. Founded by Stephen Filla-Kim, Donovan Johnson, and Cory Ginsburg, the band delivers an eclectic mix of traditional country, folk, and expansive psychedelia. While their live sets feature a curated smattering of covers from influences like Beck, Blaze Foley, The Tallest Man on Earth and The Grateful Dead, it is their original songwriting and live improvisation that form their core sound.

An absolute dream band. Knowing all too well how taxing touring can be for the spirit, I wanted to pick my favorite people and build the music from there. What a band! What an era. Siri Undlin (humbird), Hilary James (bathtub cig), Adelyn Strei (so many), Hannah Hebl (Hemma). Between us there were, I think, 12 instruments on stage? (Plus all the harmony!) In Dec 2019, absolutely honed from tour, we had a wintry session at Brian Joseph's studio, Hive. We sang 5 songs, all live, Jesse filmed the day and it was grand. And then the pandemic. Everything changed. Lives, zip codes, visions, priorities. What didn't change? Our abiding adoration of each other. So it's high time for a reunion show and it's even higher time to finally release Live at Hive. Fresh off the release of their latest EP "Hell of a Ride" and US tour, the Minneapolis-based fivesome returns home to spread a little holiday cheer as they wrap up 2026 Over the last decade, the fivesome have released a tapestry of big-picture pop anthems, soulful ballads, and driving- with-the-windows-down-belt-your-heart-out bangers. One idea remains a constant through it all: reminding listeners that they are never alone. Maria and the Coins have opened for Christina Perri, Jukebox the Ghost, Papa Roach and Haley Reinhart.
